&lt;p&gt;this works for me&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;export PYTHON_VERSION=2.5 &amp;&amp; ./configure &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;make sure you have python-gtk2 &amp; python-gtk2-dev&lt;/p&gt;

I dont know if the packages have been accepted into Ubuntus official repository yet but I&#039;m sure they will soon.
